February was the month we were expecting much snow this year.  Unlike last year when we had the blizzard, this year was not so bad cold weather.  Most of the time it was like in its 40's.  Even the north wind did not show up much until Feb 23. Big snow flakes started to come down like manna from heaven in the afternoon.  Looking out from inside it was beautiful, big snowflakes very ideal for taking photos.  So i asked my son Nicholas to dress up get ready to go out, have fun in the snow and take some photos.

Like most kids, he is more of having fun in the snow rather than posing for me for photographs.  So i told him to do what he likes to do, in photo above he was spinning around, i like what i saw, point my off camera flash towards him and told him to do it again. Perfect timing, his fingers spread out, his face towards me, the flash illuminates the falling snowflakes.

Further out in our backyard is a dirt road that leads to the salt dome for our area.  I love that back road, it got character and i have taken a few great photos on that road with my kids.  So we went ahead and try taking photos there. As usual Nick is being himself and started to catch the falling snowflakes with his tongue.

One thing i love to do when taking photos is to shoot against my light source.  So I did try to do that here as well.

Shooting against the light source gives those unwanted flares that i actually like on photographs. Again the flash lights up the falling flakes which becomes a very essential element in this photo.  Another fill light could have been nice to have to lit up Nicholas face.
